  2. Sileni Estate Satyr Pinot Noir 2018

"A step up in flavour intensity from the last vintage, (that also showed bafflingly good value), the new 2017 vintage is darker-fruited and has more tannin richness. Then comes more complexity that keeps a Pinotphile like me so very happy for mid-week drinking, but also wondering how they do it for such a good price and so much flavour at only 12% alcohol; obviously great viticulture comes into play here. 16.5/20." 3. Hentley Farm Shiraz 2017

"Estate-grown, machine-harvested, destemmed, various blocks on skins 6-65 days, matured for 10 months in French oak (10% new). Vivid crimson-purple; a no compromise full-bodied shiraz, with black, tarry, berry fruit wrapped in a film of unrelenting tannins. You need to play this wine game on its terms." 93 Points, James Halliday.

  8. Alamos Malbec 2017

From the stable of wines such as Catena Zapata this is a delightfully fruited budget-priced Argentinian Malbec with blue berries, mulberry, plum and raspberry flavours. It still has a grab of power yet suts very nicely on the palate with good weight and length. Great value and very drinkable.

  9. Nicholas Crampton Papa Nico Shiraz 2017

Winery Notes: "Vineyards: Sourced from established South Australian vineyards just an hours drive from the famed Barossa Valley. The wines are rich and full bodied wines with excellent depth of flavour. Winemaking: Totally de-stemmed before a long, cool maceration (three weeks) with regular pump-overs to maximise retention of fruit colour and aroma.  Maturation is partially in one and two year old oak barrels and partially in stainless steel tanks. Vintage: February 2017 was marked with unusual, greater rain events however significant heat immediately followed sending ripeness to optimal levels. The best vineyard sites per usual delivered the most consistent fruit resulting in full-flavoured and rich wines. Limited ripening pressures, good yields and the usual ripening period are hallmarks to the very good 2017 wines such as the Papa Nico Shiraz. Tasting Note: The nose is bright and highly aromatic, bursting with aromas of red berries, cherries and exotic spice. The palate is impressively rich and ripe with a core of dark berried fruit flavours wrapped in savoury spice and fine tannins before a long, dry finish. An elegant partner to a diverse range of cuisine."

  10. Two Hands Angels Share Shiraz 2017

"Another winner from Two Hands; this latest 2015 vintage has masses of fruit on the nose; juicy, ripe mulberries and hints of blue fruits, lanolin and chocolate which flow onto a viscous, juicy palate with good acid balance to keep it fresh. (This is a slightly less fruit-sweet offering than the "Gnarly Dudes" Barossan Shiraz). Drink now but will be better in 6-12 months. Score 17.5/20Wine Culture tasting notes.
