  2. Chaffey Bros Pax Aeterna Grenache 2018

"Light and fresh, strawberry, floral, spicy, slightly smoky and reductive. Fine and red fruited, soft but balanced acidity, tastes (and feels) like whole bunch spice here, with subtle stickiness, light emery tannin, and a savory finish, which is tasty, though not especially long. Stylish."92 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

  3. Head Wines Old Vine Grenache 2018

"From the Stonegarden vineyard, 1858 plantings. Raised in 600 litre barrels. Contains a dash of Mataro (8%). Rosy perfume, raspberry, spice, fresh mint, milk chocolate and hazelnuts. Medium-bodied, silky glycerol feel, ripe fine tannin buried under it, succulence of red fruit with some dried herb, beautiful texture, and a very long, pretty finish. Drink after a year or two more in the cellar."95+ Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

  4. Head Wines Old Vine Shiraz 2018

"New packaging and marketing things. The Old Vine wines now belong to the ‘Limited Series’. Explosive blue and black fruit, a little vanilla, baking spices, sage and flowers. Medium bodied, smooth and juicy in fruit, but deep, playful almost, with rich silky tannin, and impressive length.  The 2018 vintage looks to be a very good one for Head."95 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

  5. Head Wines Ancestor Vine Grenache Mataro 2015

"A 60/40 blend from the Stonegarden vineyard. 1000 bottles produced. Raspberry, plum, blackberry, spice, spearmint, dried herbs, cut flower stem reduction, honey. Very savoury, very earthy, all dried herb and meat, plenty of grippy tannin, a clear almost mineral water thing happening with the acidity, very long and spicy to close. Curious wine. In evolution, I suspect."93+ Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

  6. Rusden Chritine's Grenache 2017

Winery notes. Sour cherry, spice, floral tones, with a slight sweetness on the nose. The palate is delicate as Grenache should be with white pepper, cherry and red fruits. Light on its feet, but beautifully poised with great purity.

  7. Cirillo Estate The Vincent Grenache 2018

Marco Cirillo decided to invoke a massive turning point for this wine with picking leaner the gist. About a third of the pick is quite young and fresh, low alcohol, briskly fresh and then there’s some riper material. From 1901, 1906 plantings – remarkable. All carbonic maceration here. "Rich red fruits, sage and spice, has intensity and a salami-like savoury edge. Dense, minty, tannin is fleshy and fine-grained, menthol and dried herb on a long and firm finish. A lot of character, and verity of fruit. Really good." 93 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

  8. Cirillo 1850 Ancestor Vine Grenache 2018

Winery notes. The Cirillo 1850 Grenache grown on sandy soils situated in the old Seigersdorf or Light Pass area of the Barossa Valley. This single vineyard is believed to be the oldest Grenache vineyard in the world. There are aromas of dark berry fruit, dried herbs and spice. The palate is medium to full-bodied with intense yet subtle delicate flavours of cherry, aniseed, white pepper and savoury notes. Matured in aged seasoned hogsheads for 24 months. The Cirillo Grenache is more about the variety than the oak. The tannins are so and long with great length. The balance between the primary fruit and the acid make this a beautifully seamless wine that mimics Rhone styles. One of the few Australian Grenaches that will reward over a decade of cellaring.

  9. Rouleur Wines Grenache 2017

Winemaker's notes. "Grenache is one of our most loved grape varieties to work with and in 2017 we were blessed with exceptional parcels of fruit from two ancient vineyards in both McLaren Flat and Blewitt Springs. The Rouleur 2017 Grenache presents deep raspberry aromatics over earthen, musk spice and smoke-like sulfides. The palate has firm but integrated tannins overlaid with plush complex fruit, hints of potpourri and whole bunch stems."
