  2. Brookfields Hillside Syrah 2007

"This outstanding Syrah grown in a very special site..............In the glass you will be greeted by a dark red - almost black colour. The bouquet of this 2007 Hillside Syrah is very confident but friendly, with complex aromas intertwined with freshly cracked black pepper and spice. The wine is packed with dark plum characters, sweet berries, toast, and balanced oak form a multi layered palate that lingers into next week." 3. Stefano Amerighi Syrah 2011

Beautifully bright and elegant. This vintage has some darker notes and being from a warmer year it is more concentrated than previous efforts but it's excellent nontheless. Think Cornas rather than Saint Joseph.

  4. Bk Wines Waning Crescent Syrah 2016

Make no bones about it, this is excitingly good. It explodes on the palate with a rush of fruit then there's an exciting interplay of dired herbs, fresh fermenty savoury backbone and great length.Named for the moon on the day of harvest from a highly-prized biodynamic vineyard, the fruit was in peak condition, full of ripe flavours and enjoyed a languorous fermentation. Blood red in the glass. Traditional Rhône characteristics of mulberry and oyster shell with a white-pepper tang. Toothy tannins round out this classic, Old World Syrah. It wants very much to find itself next to roast duck.

  5. Alkimi The Good Earth Syrah 2015

The appearance is a vivid ruby. The nose exhibits floral notes of violets, lavender and heady herb garden. Fruit notes of blueberry and ripe raspberry show. Layers of clove, nutmeg and mahogany are woven throughout. The palate shows firm, polished tannin that are mouth coating. Red cherry, violet and dark choc tones show through. A subtle whole bunch tones of blueberry bubblegum and pepperoni pizza show through. The finish is long, complex and perky with spice notes carried through. Silver Medal - 2016 Royal Melbourne Wine Awards Like the 2014 Syrah, the 2015 Syrah grapes are taken from the Warramunda vineyard in Coldstream, Yarra Valley. The grapes were picked on 13th March. Three-quarters of the pick was destemmed and moved to fermenters for an 18 day fermentation. Whereas the last quarter was treated separately as a 100% whole bunch fermentation. After pressing the wine was run to barrels, where 17% was new (Hungarian) oak. Maloloctic fermentation was conducted with rack and returns conducted as necessary. The wine was blended and bottled, unfined and unfiltered, in January 2016. 300 Dozen bottles were produced. Match this wine with protein rich dishes such as warm Cassoulet or a T-bone beef steak. The wine is built to go the distance, and will continue to drink well for 15 or more years.

  6. Fromm La Strada Syrah 2014

With initial expressive red/blue fruit (cassis & juniper berries) the aroma leads on to ovely chacouterie & Kalamata olive savouriness, complimented by Chinese spice & fresh sage. The palate is full and textural with juicy fruit acidity that dances about the mouth. Ripe without any kick of alcohol, our cool climate gives us a lively and energetic Syrah. Expressive cool climate Syrah, dense ripe fruit, good concentration and weight, elegant and linear finish. In the early 1990s, Swiss winemaker George Fromm started the Fromm - La Strada winery in Marlborough as a Southern Hemisphere offshoot of his Swiss wine business. Now owned by Pol Lenzinger and Georg Walliser with winemakers Hatsch Kalberer and William Hoare onboard the Fromm winery produces a range of wines that are crafted intuitively with great attention to detail and respect for the terroir from which they are grown. The Fromm and Clayvin vineyard Pinot Noir are among the countries finest, as is their Syrah, the highest rating wine in a World of Fine Wine Magazine tasting. The Fromm white wines show great purity with the Rieslings in particular showing a distinct Germanic lean with great drive and tension along their length.

  7. Bk Wines Mother Moon Syrah 2017

Mother Moon is fruity, pungent Guatemalan coffee with a strong acid line. Dense with flavours of smoky charcuterie, black olives, mulberry and even native Australian cherry. Would work fabulously well with a lean, gamey meat – kangaroo for our Aussie audience or duck if you’re further afield.
