A Valpolicella can be a marvellous thing to drink. This one is wonderfully light and elegant but has depth of savoury red fruits and lithe grip.A blend of 30% Corvina, 40%Corvina Grossa, 20% Rondinella, 10% Molinara

  2. Freeman Secco Rondinella Corvina 2013

"The 2013 Secco Rondinella-Corvina includes a portion of grapes dried using a prune dehydrator. Those are combined with fresh grapes during vinification; the wine is aged in old hogsheads for two years and in bottle for two more prior to release. This full-bodied wine is intense, rich and chocolaty, with hints of dried fruit along the plum-prune spectrum. It finishes long and velvety, with the concentration to support aging through at least 2025. One of the most interesting places I've visited in some time, Freeman Vineyards is the brainchild of Brian Freeman, a former professor of wine science at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga. He received his PhD from UC Davis in 1980. Freeman was attracted to the structure of the Amarone varieties and went about importing cuttings of Corvina and Rondinella, planting 1.5 hectares of each in 1998. While he grows nearly 500 acres of grapes in the Hilltops region (he's the largest grower, accounting for approximately one-third of the region's total production), the focus at the family winery is on Italian varieties, especially those bits from Valpolicella. He even uses a neighbor's solar-powered prune dehydrator to mimic ripasso and Amarone styles. In short, these are some of the most compelling Italianate wines I've ever tasted from the New World."Tasted Feb 201893 PointsJoe Czerwinski - The Wine Advocate

  3. Monte Dall Ora Valpolicella Classico Saseti 2017

This is a Valpolicella Classico from the original zone of Valpolicella planted prior to 1968. It is light-to-medium-weighted with lively red fruits and savory spicy elements. Underneath you'll see some dried herbs and roses on the nose while the palate sits beautifully between fresh red berries and leatherwood spices. There's fresh acidity as well and soft, talc-like tannins that carry the structure so very well. Excellent wine.

  5. Ederle Valpolicella Doc 2018

Producer's notes. Our Valpolicella, with its brilliant ruby colour, moves gracefully in the glass. The bouquet is bur-sting with pleasant aromas of crisp marasca cherries, wild roses and hints of liquorice and pink pepper. On the palate, it is agile, well balanced, and full of flavour with a rich freshness, calling to be drunk again and again. Valpolicella is an easy-drinking wine making it the perfect accompani-ment for many occasions and dishes: from deli meats and cheese, to fresh pasta with meat sauce, not to mention grilled meats.
