  2. Spinifex Louis Sparkling Shiraz Nv

A little secret from Spinifex. Tasted of dried herbs and meaty nuances along with ample red/black fruits and loads of powerfully Barossan Shiraz-ness. From the distributor's web page, "From a total of 155 dozen, this is the first disgorgement (50 dozen only) and release of a Spinifex sparkling Shiraz. The base wine was vinified from a gnarly, 1898 vineyard grown in the deep sands of Vine Vale, Barossa. Comprised mostly of the 2005 vintage with small dollops of 2006 and 2007, the wine spent nearly three years in barrel before triage, and went on to spend just under 10 years on lees prior to this first disgorgement. The sweetness has been held to the absolute minimum (approx. 3.5 g/l residual sugar)."

  5. Dowie Doole Moxie Sparkling Shiraz Nv

Made from fruit grown in the California Road vineyard at Tatahilla, Mclaren Vale, this wine represents a perfect case-in-point for sparkling shiraz blended from multiple vintages. The constituent material in the bottle spans more than 20 years, going all the way back to 1996 and runing right through to the current vintage. What this achieves is to deliver all the beautiful, savoury, mushroomy nuance of older wines, while retaining the freshness, fresh fruit and quaffability of newer pressings. This is of particular import with sparkling reds as often, single-vintage sparkling reds with bottle age take some time in the glass to open up, but by the time they show their nose, are flat and warm.Of particular interest here is the utilization of chenin blanc yeast lees and old oak, which imbue the wine with a lovely, creamy, velvety mouth-feel.You'd be well advised to grap a bottle and see for yourself what I'm waffling on about.Liam Horgan - Tasted May 2018
