Chardonnay at Wine Culture

Chardonnay originally from Burgundy in France, is one of the most planted wine grape varieties in the world and as such, it is a varietal which produces a broad range of styles: From minerally and tight through to rich and creamy. However, no matter what your preference, we are confident, that at Wine Culture we stock a wine which will suit you.

Whether you are after Chablis, Montrachet or White Burgundy - key wine styles made with this extremely popular variety - or prefer to stay closer to home and buy some of the finest Chardonnay's from Australia (the Margaret River and Hunter Valley produce some of Australia's best examples of this variety) we have something for everyone. Browse through or stock, or feel free to contact us for about a wine you are looking for.

  1. Hoddles Creek Estate 2018

"Juicy and peachy, spiced oatmeal, fennel and a little stuck match. It’s flavoursome with ripe pear and nectarine flavour, flinty texture, an appealing grapefruit cut to the acidity, and a long, well-defined chalky finish. Feel the quality of quiet confidence. It’s a great thing to drink even as a young wine, though a couple of years will help it along too." 93+ Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

  2. Stargazer Chardonnay 2017

Winery note. Fresh lemon zest characters on the nose, typical of this vineyard, with background notes of gunflint and hazelnut. The palate is sleek and streamlined, the fruit and oak integrated and focussed at the same time, with lemon curd fruit generosity being the standout feature."Perfume is very pretty, touches of nougat amongst green apple, grapefruit, wet slate. The palate is lean in flavour, tightly wound, screeches on steely-slate acidity and finishes in a tight, bitter firmness. It’s got some presence and length on its side, but the wine for me is pretty hard and aggressive, with just ripe or just under-ripe grape flavours a feature. That being said, there’s suggestions of ‘mineral’ and green citrusy notes which will appeal to many. Whatever the take, it should be better with some time." Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.

  3. Rouleur Chardonnay 2018

Winemaker's notes. "Vintage 2018 presented some wonderful parcels of fruit, and Chardonnay was certainly a quality performer. Our 2018 Chardonnay is brimming with aromatics of white peach, lemon barley, almond meal and spice. The palate has a tangy grapefruit line, backed by intense yellow fruits, curd and fine supporting oak ."

  4. Becker Wines Chardonnay 2018

Winery notes. Becker Wines is a husband and wife team, we aim to make wine that express the region, vineyard, variety and the vintage not the cellar. We aim to have as little influence on the wine as possible, which means no fining agents or additives just a small and responsible amount of preservative. Tasting notes to come.

  5. Philip Shaw The Architect Chardonnay 2018

Winemakers notes. The Architect is pale straw yellow with a slight green tinge. The nose is complex and alluring with honeyed fruit, vibrant citrus and a touch of toast. It has a fresh palate with layers of stone fruit, savoury characteristics and creamy nuances. Bright citrus acidity gives the wine clarity and drive.

  6. Ad Hoc Hen & Chicken Chardonnay 2018

Wine maker Larry Cherubino sources the fruit for this wine from Margaret River... A pale, beautifully balanced chardonnay with hints of vanilla on the nose and a winning cool climate acidity. Careful oak treatment has resulted in a wine of depth and balance.

  7. Ross Hill Pinnacle Chardonnay 2017

"It's a particularly chalky expression of the variety but nectarine fruit, smoky oak and a subtle creaminess to the texture all make positive contributions. Reliably good."93 Points, Campbell Mattinson, Wine Annual.

  8. Hoddles Creek 1er Yarra Chardonnay 2018

"Served this blind to The Chardonnay Master™ (also known as The Other JH), as was interested to hear his thoughts. There’s a little struck match and perhaps more spicy cedar oak this vintage, though it’s by no means excessive. Grapefruit and ripe lemon, but also nudging into some tropical fruit flavour too. There’s a fine powdery texture, intensity of acidity, some aniseed perfume, along with wheatgerm and ginger trailing on a juicy and tight finish. It’s a flavoursome iteration of this wonderful wine, and likely ready to drink earlier than some; no bad thing."94 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

  9. Tolpuddle Chardonnay 2018

"The single site wine has leapt to the upper echelons of Australian wine consciousness in a relatively short while, and, of course, has become an anticipated release and, of course, the associated commentary. Dazzling winemaking, loaded with personalities of the Shaw + Smith juggernaut and their arsenal of wine intelligence, and with Tolpuddle it has often felt like the wines are more about a stamp of style over the transmission of site, though both appear in measures. New wine, new year. A strong sense of sulphides and mineral water. And I kind of like that here; there is some fruit flavour to back it up. I’ll get past the main quibble quickly, and that is that flavour doesn’t seem to carry very far, so far, and acid scores the palate. What we have is a wine of mostly lovely texture, but very austere feel. Lean but on the cusp of mean – I like wines on the edge though, for the most part. It has that strong sense of winemaking play that brings about flint and mineral stuff, and in cahoots is a kind of lemon-peach iced tea character running gently underneath – that barely there fruit is a treat, which I wish I saw more of in the wine. There’s a sense of pedigree here, no doubt. Take your time." 93+ Points, Mike Bennie, The Wine Front.

  10. Savaterre Chardonnay 2017

"Stonefruit, lemon peel, fennel, white flowers, nougat and some struck match. It’s flavoursome, a little toasty and spicy, intense almost grapefruity acidity along with a caramel richness, distinct chalky/quartz-like texture, pulp and pith citrus bitterness on a very long finish. A very good Chardonnay here. Very."95 Points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.
