  1. Pierro Chardonnay 2017

95+ Points, Gary Walsh, Wine Front, "It’s pretty young. It’s best days are before it. In-between days, we do our best to call it. Pie apple and pear, cinnamon oatmeal, lime, white flowers and vanilla. Medium bodied, silky delivery of Chardonnay flavour, so fine yet rich, gentle dusting of peppery tannin, discreet but firm acidity, that vanilla oatmeal creaminess, and then a finish that tightens up with a mix of apple and mixed citrus. The length is outstanding. Wonderful wine."

  2. Meadowbank Chardonnay 2017

This is just Pete Dredge's second Meadowbank Chardonnay. From 20-year-old estate vines rooted in Derwent Valley's loose sand and sandstone overlying dark brown, coffee rock, rich in iron oxides and organic matter. It's what our gumbooted wine grower friends might call "quality dirt". The 2017 was handpicked and whole cluster pressed directly to eight French barriques (one new). The wine underwent partial malo and spent the following nine months in barrel, on lees. Bottled without fining or filtration, the new vintage is focused and chiselled, tangy and pithy with layers of citrus and crunchy stone fruits. The personality is driven by mouth-watering, punchy, cold climate acidity, while the superb winemaking brings out a layered seduction.

  3. Sinapius Home Block Chardonnay 2017

Native Tasmanian’s Vaugh & Linda Morice own and run the Sinapius Estate in Tassie’s Northern wine region, Pipers Brook. They are completely hands on from the tending to vines, getting their hands dirty in the cellar, distributing and operating their cellar door. The fruit for this cuvee is sourced from their 22yo vineyard planted with 8 different Chardonnay clones. There is a hell of a lot to nose here, nougat and butter on toast among vibrant stone fruits, nectarine, peach and red apples. The palate reveals a different side, more citrus comes into play and things tighten up. Lemon pith, nougat, nectarines, clove with a never ending finish.

  4. Garagiste Merricks Chardonnay 2017

Sourced from Mornington’s South facing Merricks Grove vineyard. Hand harvest and whole bunch pressed. Whole bunch pressed has been shown to press out juice that’s less bitter and astringent, however a lot more time consuming for a busy winemaker during vintage! The wine is fermented in 500L puncheons, partial MLF and matured on lees for 10 months before bottling. This Chardy showcases how great winemaking can add all sorts of complexity to a wine. Charred hazelnuts, green melon, lemon skin and spice on the nose. The palate has got some oomph! A textural leesy dream but with a grapefruit tautness that pulls it all in  creating a structured Chard.

  5. Ls Merchants Chardonnay 2018

The nose is lifted with jasmine, lemon mist and notes of toasty brioche. On the palate, lime rind and grapefruit pith dominated with good fruit concentration and a bracing acid backbone giving length. Battonage had filled out the mid palate and there is a nice array of white stone fruits present. Drink now or cellar over 10+ years 2018 is yet another great vintage for Margaret River with the white wines showing great concentration, power and length. A great year for cellaring

  6. Lightfoot & Sons Myrtle Point Chardonnay 2017

"$30 is rarely ‘value’ territory but this is excellent buying, even at that price. It just gets the pitch right. Lemon curd, marzipan, white peach and smoky oak characters sit hand-in-glove in the best of ways. The finish is slightly chalky; entirely positive. Lovely chardonnay."93 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

  7. Bk Wines One Ball Chardonnay 2018

Winemakers Notes, Pretty-as-a-picture One Ball Chardonnay – with her deep roots and fabulous genes – never fails to appeal at first glance and every glance to follow. This vintage’s ideal growing conditions have given her a particularly heady, opulent perfume marked by purity of varietal character alongside rich Madagascan vanilla pod notes. There’s an initial fresh-from-the-vine linearity on the palate followed by generous depth and layering. The perfect balance of luscious toasty oak against the power of our distinctive regional flavour signature. Pressed to barrel, 10-15% new French oak for nine months.

  8. Nick Spencer Maragle Vineyard Chardonnay 2018

This Chardonnay shows beautiful balance between power and restraint, complexity and finesse. The wine displays green apple and white peach aromas with a hint of slate or crushed rock. The palate is vibrant with restrained power and bright apple and citrus fruit. Barrel fermentation and maturation in old and new French oak has added  a subtle complexity and length without overpowering the wine.

  9. Punt Road Chardonnay 2018

92 Points Gary Walsh, Very surprised to see the last Punt Road Chardonnay we reviewed was vintage 2013. Anyway, this is hot of the press, so to speak. Plenty of struck match and funk, white nectarine, pine-lime, a little spice and nougat. It’s medium-bodied, quite savoury and complex, juicy lemon/lime, fine chalky texture, and an almost earthy finish of good length. A lot of bang for the bucks, as it were.

  10. Moorooduc Robinson Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

"It’s from the Robinson Vineyard on Old Moorooduc Road. From a belter of a vintage. Fantastic aromatics. Perfumed, floral, rose petals and strawberries, blossomy, ‘of the garden’. It lures you in. The palate then offers more of the same, adding tang and spice, polished cedarwood, a slip of plum. It’s textural and lively at once, the mouthfeel supple but the energy high. Drinking it is like stepping into a most interesting, and attractive, world. " 93+ Points, Campbell Mattinson.
