  6. Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere Saint Emilion 2009

95 Points - Robert Parker - An intriguing blend of nearly 50% Merlot, a whopping 35% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon (a somewhat unusual combination for this region), the 2009 reminds me of the 1990. A big, inky/purple-tinged wine with just over 14% natural alcohol, it exhibits exotic, flamboyant aromas of espresso roast, incense, sweet black cherries, black currants, licorice, asphalt, barbecue smoke, Christmas fruitcake and herbs. Full-bodied with silky tannins, luscious fruit, a hedonistic yet complex personality, low acidity, noticeable tannin and enviable purity, this head-turning beauty can be enjoyed over the next 15-20 years. This has been one of my favorite St.-Emilions since the late 1980s, when proprietor Stefan Neipperg began to resurrect this once moribund estate that made so many mediocre wines in the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s (the 1982 was shameful). It is one of hundreds of examples of properties that have been returned to life, providing Bordeaux with greater quality, diversity and recognition than it has ever had in its long history.

  7. Chateau Pape Clement Pessac-leognan Bordeaux 2011

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "The 2011 Pape Clement, a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, was aged 18 months in new French oak before being bottled unfiltered. Absolutely profound, with a complex bouquet of mulberries, black cherries, black currants, graphite and subtle smoke and burning ember-like aromas, this is a true super-star of the vintage. It represents a remarkable achievement by the winemaking team of Bernard Magrez. Full-bodied, rich and multidimensional, this wine clearly transcends the entire vintage. It should age effortlessly for 25 years. (RP)    (4/2014)"

  8. Chateau Pontet Canet Pauillac Bordeaux 2008

This 5th Growth Grand Cru Classe from Pauillac is a 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot blend with a splash of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot..Jancis Robinson - "Very lightly oxidised on the nose but both fun and serious on the palate - Cullen or Ridge? Solid, very Latour-like in its dryness (bone dry, very unlike Se?a which has nearly 3 g/l residual sugar) - but over time this became rather a trial. At first I gave it 17." Tasted: 14-Jan-2013

  9. Chateau D'yquem 2003 375ml

Served from an ex-chateau bottle. Picked in one trie, the 2003 Chateau d’Yquem is slightly deeper in color compared to the 2004. It is attired with an intriguing bouquet with Manuka honey, quince, honeycomb and a touch of nougat, though it does not have the pixilation of a top vintage. The palate is unctuous right from the start: gloopy in texture with hedonistic ripe honeyed fruit laced with orange zest and a strong spicy note on the finish. It has moderate length, but finishes with plenty of glycerine in the mouth. This is certainly the finest 2003 Sauternes.Neal Martin - 94/100 (June 2014)
