  2. Clos Leon Bordeaux Rouge 2015

90 Points, Wine Front, Gary Walsh, "I believe this made to spec for the importers. It’s right bank, with fruit sourced near to Saint-Émilion. 100% Merlot aged in one and two year old oak barrels. 2015 a good vintage for Bordeaux. Plum and redcurrant, touch of liquorice and violet perfume. Medium bodied, attractive plum and red fruits laced with coffee cream, some dried herb and black olive, pleasant grip of earthy tannin and flavour, clean finish of moderate length. Easy to drink, affordable and has typicity of grape and region. Recommended."Fantastic balance of fruit, oak and tannin. Bellows with plummy fruits and sweet earthiness and dried herbal edges packed in cigar-box-like aromas that make for a terrific Bordeaux classique. Savoury, spices, dark plums and fresh tannin lift make for a very enjoyable drink indeed.

  3. Chateau Villa Bel Air Graves Grand Vin De Bordeaux Rouge 2011

Produced by fames JM Cazes of Lynch Barges fame this shows a softness and definition that normally can't be in Bordeaux of this price. The red wine from Château Villa Bel-Air exemplifies the refined character of a Graves wine. Its remarkable balance reflects the harmony of the grape variety planting ratio. The nose is brimming with ripe red fruits and violet, underpinned by woody notes of vanilla and spice. It is well-structured with plenty of body and a robust, smooth finish that discloses fine tannins and licorice. Vines have an average age of 18 years. The planting ratio consists of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot.

  6. Chateau La Garde 2010

Tasting notes: Extremely attractive deep, dark ruby in colour. The Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend, sourced on the Chateau’s stunning plateau, reveals a complex bouquet of red and black fruits, intermingling with smoky, mocha notes. The fresh, fruity and unctuous palate, with its remarkable finegrained tannins, shows no hint of harshness, despite the wine’s depth and concentration. Long and well-balanced on the finish. A wine with excellent ageing potential! Blend: 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot

  10. Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere Saint Emilion 2009

95 Points - Robert Parker - An intriguing blend of nearly 50% Merlot, a whopping 35% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon (a somewhat unusual combination for this region), the 2009 reminds me of the 1990. A big, inky/purple-tinged wine with just over 14% natural alcohol, it exhibits exotic, flamboyant aromas of espresso roast, incense, sweet black cherries, black currants, licorice, asphalt, barbecue smoke, Christmas fruitcake and herbs. Full-bodied with silky tannins, luscious fruit, a hedonistic yet complex personality, low acidity, noticeable tannin and enviable purity, this head-turning beauty can be enjoyed over the next 15-20 years. This has been one of my favorite St.-Emilions since the late 1980s, when proprietor Stefan Neipperg began to resurrect this once moribund estate that made so many mediocre wines in the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s (the 1982 was shameful). It is one of hundreds of examples of properties that have been returned to life, providing Bordeaux with greater quality, diversity and recognition than it has ever had in its long history.
