  5. Domaine De La Romanee Conti La Tache 2010

"The La Tache 2010 was picked between 26th and 27th September at a measly 21hl/ha. Comparing it directly against the Romanee-Conti, the first impression is that the latter clearly has great clarity and delineation. You can tell that this is going to be a rich, generous nose and of all the crus in 2010, this bears the most semblance to the 2009. Scents of wild strawberry, raspberry coulis, peach skin and candied around peel abound. Monitoring this La Tache over ten to fifteen minutes, at unveils greater clarity in the glass with hints of smoke and sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky smooth texture. It is immensely pure and refined with a caressing texture, a little more plush than the Romanee St. Vivant. It is a deceptive wine: straightforward in the first half but revealing much more terroir expression and mineralite in the second. Total production is 1,870 cases. Tasted January 2013."97 PointsNeal Martin - The Wine Advocate

  6. Liger-belair La Romanee Grand Cru 2015

Winery Note: "Louis-Michel Liger-Belair told me that 2015 had a "pretty much perfect growing season except for a bit of oidium pressure that caused us some grief. Otherwise the conditions were clement, very hot and very dry though I stress that it was nothing like we experienced in 2003. Interestingly, the flowering was very fast, which normally is extremely positive yet we had some shatter anyway. Why that was I simply don't know. However I do know that it was enough to cost us on the order of 25% of the potential yield. We picked from the 5th to the 11th of September and the harvest proceeded quickly as the fruit was so clean that there really wasn't much sorting required. The vinifications were easy and I chaptalized nothing. They did unfold slowly and most cuvées needed around 25 days of total cuvaison to finish. I used a bit of whole cluster for a few wines, which is to say around 15% or so. I like the style and quality of the 2015s a lot as they have everything one looks for as they're quite fresh, concentrated and powerful yet elegant, notably ripe yet express their terroirs well and should drink well both early on and with age. In fact, there's not really anything to dislike other than perhaps it would have been nice to produce a bit more quantity but we can't really complain." I have to agree with Liger-Belair's description of his 2015s and when taken as a range, I found them to out-perform the general quality of the vintage. I was also very impressed with the now in-bottle 2014s, revisited below, and this is true up and down the appellation hierarchy; he noted that the wines were bottled in stages which is to say December, 2015 and February and April 2016. Fans of the domaine are not seeing things as there is a new grand cru in the range. Liger-Belair explained that he signed a fruit purchase contract for a .40 ha parcel of Clos de Vougeot that at one time belonged to the négociant arm of the firm C. Marey et Comte Liger-Belair; a review for the 2015 version is below"Tasting note: "Reduction. In the mouth however it's immediately evident that this is just at another level with its sleek, refined and powerful yet restrained medium-bodied flavors that exude evident minerality on the intense, palate coating and massively long finish that is incredibly refined and graceful. As good as the Ech and the Clos de Vougeot are, and they are indeed excellent, the 2015 La Romanée quite simply outclasses them. A genuine 'wow' wine that is very much built-to-age and is going to need it." 95-98/100 Tasted Jan 2017 by Burghound

  8. Chateau Margaux 1990 1500ml

"Absolutely compelling in two tastings of this vintage, the 1990 Margaux is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The extraordinary seductiveness, complex aromatics, and purity it exhibits lead me to believe it has reached its window of full maturity. Medium-bodied, with layers of concentration, stunning blue, red, and black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, a subtle dosage of new oak, and a distinctive personality that is elegant while at the same time powerful and substantial, this is a multi-dimensional wine that was extremely approachable and drinkable in both tastings I had of it. The color remains a healthy, even opaque bluish/purple, but there is no reason to hesitate to drink it. It should evolve for another 30-40 years, so there is no hurry either. 99/100"Robert M.
