  3. Port Phillip Estate Quartier Pinot Noir 2016

92 Points - Gary Walsh, Wine Front, 14th March 2017If I ordered this in a restaurant or fancy bistro, I’d be very happy with my choice: it’s a great drink. A little perfume, raspberry and cherry, whole bunch sap and spice as a seasoning. Medium bodied at most, fresh and juicy, bursting with spiced red fruits and blood orange, a stony feel with fine emery tannin, and a convincing finish. Beauty.Winery Notes: "Vibrant and deeply scented nose of raspberry and red cherry along with intriguing aromas of wet rock and dark spices. The silky palate offers bramble fruit flavours and a moreish mid-palate sweetness that is balanced with fine tannins, great length and a touch of whole bunch spiciness on the finish."

  4. Foxeys Hangout Pinot Gris 2016

Minerals, pear and rose petal floral aromas make this a very intense and pretty wine on the nose, with a long, focused line of acidity shaping the palate and a smidge of residual sugar building palate texture rather than sweetness. "We pick fairly early in the season at around 12Be, aiming for low sugars and therefore lower alcohols in the wine. The grapes are whole-bunch pressed, the juice settled overnight, then racked to barrels with plenty of ‘fluffy’ solids from the bottom of the settled tank added to the barrels which adds texture and mouthfeel to the finished wine. The barrels are old; we’re not seeking new oak flavour, just barrel fermentation complexity. Native yeast fermentation, no acid addition, no malolactic fermentation (except for a couple of barrels that got away from us), and no barrel stirring. Nevertheless, the barrels pick up some lees complexity from their barrel storage before bottling."

  5. Kooyong Massale Pinot Noir 2016

92 Points, Gary Walsh, Wine Front, "Tasted alongside its sister, the Quartier Pinot Noir 2016 (amongst others), and it becomes clear that so often with Pinot Noir, it’s a matter of style and taste preference, rather than just quality. My wife much preferred the Quartier, while I had a slight preference for this. More importantly, what will CM think?Blood plum, cinnamon sticks, red cherry, star anise and whole bunch spice, but throughout, has a kind of earthy character that gives it a little bump up in the appeal stakes. Medium bodied, cherry and exotic spices, a sweet orange juiciness, fine dusting of tannin, and a dry spiced finish of good length, cinched with a little bitterness. I like it."

  7. Eldridge Estate Fume Blanc 2016

93/100 Wine Front notes, "David Lloyd is one of those never-puts-out-a-bad-wine kind of producers. Everything feels, tastes and presents as though it’s been highly and rigorously considered. This oak-matured sauvignon blanc from the Mornington Peninsula continues the theme. This is a treat. The sparks fly, the juices flow. It races with passionfruit, grapefruit and assorted tropical fruits but then hones to a dry, grassy, smoky conclusion. It grabs your attention and then impresses with its sophistication. You cannot go wrong here. It suits all comers, low brow and high." Campbell Mattinson

  9. Eldridge Estate Ptg 2016

PTG stands for Passetoutgrain which is usually a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir. Think light, juicy, gluggable, fresh and bright red fruited and you will be pretty close to what this wine is all about. There is so much pretty fruit here but ample grippiness on the finish to make for excellent drinkibility.

  10. Byrne Merricks Pinot Noir 2016

Alex's Notes: "A regional exploration for Byrne Wines.  The first Pinot Noir to be made from outside of Ballarat, this wine is a pure expression of the Mornington Peninsula.  Made with wild yeast and 15% whole bunches in the ferment this is a bright expression of Pinot Noir, with red berries over hints of earth and funk."
