Notes
"The Pinot Meunier vines were planted on the Best's property in 1868. They are the same vines that grew the fruit for this wine in 2021. At 153 years old, that is a staggering prospect. The 2021 Old Vine Pinot Meunier is very pale in color—there are rosés that boast deeper color—but if one was to make assumptions about the depth of flavor based off that, then one might find themselves an "ass" made of, as the saying goes. This is a concentrated well of flavor, a glassy pool, that reaches depths unseen in the mouth. It ripples on, long after the wine is gone and shows the prowess of those glorious old vines. The texture is superfine—gossamer is an appropriate simile—and it is that, in combination with the overall balance and depth of flavor, that allows this wine to age for decades with ease and grace. While it can be purchased and consumed in close proximity, it would be an inglorious waste of potential, given its Benjamin Button-like attributes. Your call, of course. It is a national treasure." 97 Points Erin Larkin - Robert Parkers Wine Advocate
