Base 2016, disgorged February 2022. Sous le Mont is 100% Pinot Noir from a single vineyard in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ on the Mont de Gruguet. Acquired in 2003, the site has an easterly exposure and is positioned in the middle of the slope. For interest, the south face of the hill is home to the revered Clos des Goisses. The unique, chalky soil is rich in magnesium and calcium, giving a savoury character to the resultant wines, which are often described as having notes of bitter/sweet fruit and earth. Selosse says, “The presence of magnesium confers a bitterness such as is present in Hepar water. This is not the most powerful wine but expresses the serenity of the eastern exposure.”
